San Miguel, Bohol- People’s Organization members and residents of Barangay Caluasan, were cheerful and filled with excitement as the Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management (INREMP) access road rehabilitation subproject had formally kicked off last August 17, 2018 in a groundbreaking ceremony held at Barangay Caluasan, San Miguel, Bohol.

The first to turn the turf was San Miguel Municipal Mayor Nunila M. Pinat, alongside with the DENR-INREMP Unit Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Forester Norlito Sarmiento, DENR-INREMP Region VII Focal Person Ambrocio Wenceslao, OIC-PENRO Atty. Eusalem S. Quiwag, representative from the Office of the Governor Mr. Isabelito Tungco, and representative of 2nd District Congressman Erico Aristotle C. Aumentado, Mr. Donglee Camacho and the BCRDA Chairman Mr. Rogelio Tiedra.

Mayor Pinat, also an environment advocate extended her gratitude and emphasized the project’s importance during the ceremony. She averred, “The rehabilitation of this access road will not only provide an easy transportation to the barangay residents it will likewise enhance the travel and flexibility of the road against hazards such as flash floods.”

The rehabilitation of Sitio Sto. Rosario, Kagawasan to Purok 7, Caluasan access road was proposed by Barangay Caluasan Rural Developers Association (BCRDA) under the Rural Infrastructure Component of INREMP, subsidized by the Asian Development Bank. It is scheduled to be completed within 180 calendar days.

The access road measuring 3,811.15 meters long has an estimated cost of PhP 23,322,198.75 which will be constructed by the LEDA Construction, and expected to benefit at least 102 households of Barangay Kagawasan and environs in terms of reduction in fare, travel time and cost of transporting agricultural produce and safety from road accidents.

BCRDA Chairperson Mr. Rogelio Tiedra asserted, “Kining kalsada sa una-una gihimo aron pagsuporta sa mga produkto sa atong agroforestry mga 57 ba ektarya usab dimhu sa Brgy. Caluasan, mahatag usab kini sa kahapsay ug kasayon.” (“This farm to market road will primarily support the 57 hectares of agroforestry products of Brgy. Caluasan, it will also give comfort and easy transportation to everyone”)

He also added, “Sa tanan nga moagi dinhing dapit busa ato kining alimahon ug mintinahon.” (“We will maintain and take care of this project.”)
