Tagbilaran City- After undergoing to Farmer Business School’s (FBS) different workshops and trainings, the six priority Peoples Organization (POs) and Indigenous Peoples Organization (IPO) of Bohol took a big leap or milestone as they launched their various root and tuber crop-based food products during Sandugo Festival Trade Fair at Island City Mall, Tagbilaran City, Bohol last July 28, 2018.

These POs/IPO are Lundag Eskaya Tribe Multipurpose Cooperative (LETMULCO), Nagkahiusang Mag-uuma sa San Vicente Association (NMSVA), San Carlos Association for Rehabilitation of Environmental Denudation (SCARED), San Miguel Association Resource Team (SMART), Concepcion Livelihood Environmental Association Project (CLEAP), and Illaya Sustainable Farmers Association of Inabanga Bohol Incorporated (ISFA).

The FBS was adopted by Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Project of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (INREMP-DENR) with the assistance of International Potato Center-Food Resilience Through Root and Tuber Crops in Upland and Coastal Communities of the Asia-Pacific (CIP-FoodSTART+) to provide training and transfer of technology to the POs and IPOs to develop their small enterprises.

To officially mark the opening of the business launch and products exhibit, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held. Among the special guests who led the ribbon cutting ceremony was the Former Department of Agriculture Secretary and now a 3rd District Representative of Bohol, Congressman Arthur C. Yap and the Office of the Governor representative Isabelito Tanco, CIP’s Senior Research Specialist Ms. Arma Bertuso, PENRO-INREMP Focal Person Forester Candido Salces, and DENR-Region 7 Assistant Regional Director Eduardo Inting, Technical Services Division.

“Root and tuber crop products can be a commodity and alternative for rice, and it will help us as well to strengthen more our industry in Bohol, so I encourage you all to patronize these products.” said Congressman Yap. He also expressed his full support and appreciation to the product launch of POs and IPOs of the province.

Moreover, Forester Johanna San Pedro in behalf of Forest Management Bureau Director and concurrent Project Director Nonito Tamayo delivered her gleeful message and greeted everyone for the successful product launching.  

“We are so proud to be part of your journey and this event was a good opportunity to see the fruition of everyone’s labor. There is more to come--do not just stop here and don’t be afraid of doing things differently.” Forester San Pedro added.

ARD Inting, Mr. Tanco, and Forester Salces also expressed their compliments for a job well done to the POs/IPOs, complimenting each and everyone for their accomplishment and for having a productive innovation.

Meanwhile, after the ribbon cutting the venue was officially set opened for  the public consumers for taste testing and product selling. Among the products were sweet potatoes, taro, cassava and other root and tuber crops which were developed into chips, flour, beverage, jam, ketchup, and candies

Each POs and IPO delivered their business pitch and introduction of products through a dance, chant, and song. The objective of the business pitch is to train the organizations in promoting their products to potential buyers and markets.
